Joining Bretby Lodge and Freemasonry

Why Join?

Friendship: First and foremost you WILL make friends in Freemasonry. You will be with like minded people with morals and good intentions. This obviously doesn't happen overnight, but as you visit your own lodge and other lodges you will find that you slowly form friendships. Many Freemasons will tell you that they have met some of their closest friends in Freemasonry. We have members who have moved from other areas and being new to the area find they don't know anyone. Because we meet socially you and your partner will meet other masons and quickly gain friendships.

Knowing you are helping others: Throughout the year we give money to good causes and charities. Buying raffle tickets and giving a little money each meeting to our charity fund enables us to do some wonderful things. It doesn't stop there, members are encouraged to participate in sponsored charity events or possibly create their own.

Development: Most meetings involve a ceremony which is carried out by the officers of lodge. A typical ceremony would be an initiation of a new Mason. This is where a joining member becomes a First Degree Mason. The ceremony is best described as an historical enactment played out by the officers of the lodge. There is absolutely no humiliation to the candidate. the ceremony is quite beautiful and uses ancient language which is often symbolic and enforces our three great principles; Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. After joining Freemasonry taking an office isn't compulsory but it does allow a brother to gain confidence in standing and talking before others. As a brother progresses through the offices the more work is required, allowing him to build his confidence.

Help: Just as a friend will help you in life, so will the friends you make in Freemasonry. People are mislead into believing that just because you are a Freemason you will get special privileges from other Masons. We help each other just like friends help each other if they can. One mason may need a plumber and may know a plumber who is also a mason, of course he would approach him, this doesn't mean they would have to use his services.

Support: There are times in our lives where we may suffer with illness or hardship. Having support from your fellow lodge members can make a huge difference at this time. All lodges have an Almoner who can advise you on what help is available from our own Samaritan and Charity fund which is money set a side for Freemasons and their families.

Costs: Compared to other hobbies Freemasonry is relatively cheap. Click here for more information about costs.

The internet is full of weird stories and untruths about Freemasons. If you want to know more about Freemasonry we advise that you talk to one, we'd love to hear from you. Why not request a call back, ask us a question or just give us a call.

Joining

You don't have to know a Freemason to become one yourself. You can contact us and one or two of us will arrange to meet you at your home or where we meet.
